I see, you have a point there. I don't have any insight on what the situation in the US right now, but PSY definitely introduced some people to kpop everywhere around the world who otherwise would never have heard of it.

I don't really think PSY paved the way for the rest of kpop. Yes, everyone knows Gangnam Style and most have liked it, a small percentage might have become interested in kpop and only a few will be hooked to kpop, but there are many reasons why PSY succeeded and most kpop artists won't.
First of all, most people like PSY's Gangnam Style because it's somewhat catchy, weird, the dance, the parodies, the MV etc. The total package is entertaining and funny, but they liked it for the 'wrong reasons'. I'm not saying that it's bad or anything, but in this case, if we're talking about kpop's benefit from this, there's hardly anything for kpop to gain.
Gangnam Style is definitely not representative of the rest of kpop. PSY's persona and Gangnam Style are strange ducks in the land of kpop, so if someone decides to click on a kpop MV after watching Gangnam Style, there's a large chance that this person will be 'dissapointed' by what he sees.
While PSY was in the US, he hardly promoted kpop, but mostly promoted himself. He carried his own flag, not kpop's flag. Most korean artists aren't also as fluent in English as PSY and aren't strong, performer types like him with big personalities and stories. Most artists don't have the resistance or marketing skills/opportunities to survive in the non-Asian market.
PSY got rather lucky and got a lot further than he could've hoped for and it's all because of the way that the internet currently works. Social networks and news/media sites spreads information in a very volatile and aggressive way, only few go viral like Gangnam Style, but viral content is spread really fast. It will be very hard (read near impossible) for someone to recreate this same situation for another korean artist.
What I'm trying to say is, that it's probably impossible for another kpop artist to promote and survive in the US and honestly I think it'll be hard for PSY to stay famous too. I suspect him to fade away, the only chance of survival is probably what the american label is going to do with him.
Ever since I listened to bad boy PSY's songs a long time ago and his performer skills for the first time, I've been a fan, thinking he was 'the most awesome uncle ever', and I somewhat hope that I'm wrong about all this, but I really don't see him or any other Korean artist make it big.

Well, I guess I had a rough time as well, not as hard as you though. I quit my previous studies after two years of frustration, doubt and a grey future and now I'm studying Computer Science and I must say that I enjoy it a lot more.
It's a lot harder though and every day I wake up and go to bed with school, so I have hardly any time left for anything else.

Girl's Day's new comeback makes me so happy. Even though Jihae left, I really enjoy their comeback and it makes me really happy, because after not promoting 'Don't let your eyes wander' and the rather meh 'Oh My God', I'm really happy that they have such a solid comeback, especially the vocals are a lot better compared to 'Oh my god'. I had my doubts for a while, but they have certainly fortified their position as my favourite group again
It's kinda sad that chat isn't very active anymore, that used to be one of the best parts of this website (, if not the best).
