"Starlight is Falling", "My Mind Talks", "Devil"...
Annyeongbada, composed of the 4 members, Namoo (vocals), Joon Hyuk (drums), Dae Hyun (keyboard) and Myung Jae (bass), has swept away the K-pop world with its unique style and meaningful music.
GoKpop got the chance to have an exclusive interview with this talented rock band! Don't miss reading it and getting to know these passionate boys!
First of all, we asked them about Annyeongbada in general, so how the band formed, what the band name was about and so on.
What brought the four of you together? How did you form Annyeongbada?
Annyeongbada is composed of 4 people with very distinctive personalities. So, there are often situations where our personalities clash. But the deficiencies in our own personalities give us a great synergy and strengthen us as well.
Namoo: I used to play guitar on the street, when I realised that, rather than being alone, I wanted to create a band and perform a concert one day. Recruiting members naturally followed, and now Annyeongbada has been formed.
Which 5 words describe your band and music the best?
Sea, longing, excitement, passion, live
Which artists have influenced your style of music? Whom do you admire personally?
There are big and smaller stars who influence us. It's hard to say which artists influence us specifically. Expressing themselves through music, we love all artists. They are always motivating.
You are already together since 2006. What has changed in your style of music, performances etc. since then?
All of Annyeongbada's current songs are the type of music style we want to present. In 2006, we looked like young boys but now you can see our natural progression into young men. Bringing more style to our music is what we pray for.
After that, we continued by talking about Annyeongbada's comeback. On 28th February, Annyeongbada released its 2nd studio album, PINK REVOLUTION, which we recommend you to give a listen fast, if you haven't yet! So check out Annyeongbada's latest music video of "Luminous Star", after you're finished reading the interview!
In 2007 you changed your name from Annyeongbada to Bye Bye Sea, but 5 years later, in 2012, you decided to make your comeback with the name of Annyeongbada again. Why did you go back to this name and is there a special meaning behind it?
Our original band name was longer. It was "I cross the sea with you". It was a bit of an inconvenience having a long band name, therefore we changed it to "Annyeongbada". Annyeongbada's "Annyeong" in Korean both can mean "encounter" and "separation". Because of these two implications, the team name was altered to this fitting name.
(Editor's Note: "Annyeong" can be said when saying hello, thus an encounter, and goodbye, a separation, in Korean).Your comeback album is called PINK REVOLUTION. What message do you want to deliver with your new album?
Our new album deals with the changes that take place within a person's mind. The biggest revolution of the heart is love and that’s the main concept of our album. Certain things that are changed because of love are also covered in our album.
Which of your new songs of PINK REVOLUTION would you recommend most? Which are your favourite songs of the album?
We recommend “Devil.” The melody of the track is simple but very unique.
"Devil" is the title track of PINK REVOLUTION. What is the song about and what makes it special?
We want to show the change of our lyrical style and appearance and "Devil" expresses that well. Existing fans might feel the change from this song, but sticking to one style was something that we didn't want.
Namoo, Joon Hyuk, Dae Hyun and Myung Jae were also featured in some dramas in the past. That's why we also asked them some questions about TV series.
You had cameo appearances in I Am Legend and Playful Kiss, and also participated in some OST albums. How have TV series contributed to your popularity and career in general? What meaning do TV series have to you?
We played in TV series like many people, and we love it. However, we're more grateful for our live performances and the work on our album. We got a little tired of being placed in TV series, though it was a new challenge. But our main business is music and live performances.
Is there a current TV series you like to watch or would like to be part of?
We would like to see an OST of our own rather than just appearances. Rather than being a part of a TV series, we would like to be a part of a major music program. We've seen the Grammy awards of 2012 not too long ago, we were very impressed.

Do you watch Dream High 2? What do you think about Jin Woon's (2AM) cover of your song "Starlight is Falling"? Did he do a good job?
"Starlight is Falling" was our song from three years ago, and it gave us great pleasure that someone covered it. We think Jin Woon's voice fits very well with our music.
Last but not least, Annyeongbada revealed us its plans for the future and which idol stars the boys like to listen to.
Are there any artists you'd like to collaborate with one day?
All the Korean idol groups are very talented. We always wondered what their music with a blend of energy felt like.
What are your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve in the music industry?
In the future, we would like to participate in an international rock festival. Annyeongbada's music has it's own emotion, which we would like to promote overseas.
Many idol groups have been introduced recently. Are there any idol groups you listen to or would like to work with?
JYP Entertainment's musicians give us a good sense. 2AM, 2PM, Wonder Girls, Miss A etc. are all very cool groups. We were given the chance to work with 2AM's Jin Woon, but the opportunity collapsed. It's a pity this opportunity didn't work out. If we are given another chance in the future, we will take it.
We hope you enjoyed reading our interview with Annyeongbada and maybe even found another K-pop artist to follow.
