News about the group initially began to surface in early-2011 when it was announced that "Hyun Bin's ex-girlfriend" Hwang Ji Hyun would be the leader of a new girl group with four members. Choi Soo Eun was also announced as a member.
Gangkiz was officially introduced as an unnamed seven member girl group. It was announced that they would be going to Italy, Switzerland, and Austria to shoot their debut music video with T-ara's Hyomin. 10 million won was spent on their debut and a contest was created to come up with a name for the group. Over 35,000 names were submitted, and the name Gangkiz was chosen because it represented the image of 'cute bad girls'.
Before the group was formed, three of the members, Ji Hyun, Soo Eun, and Hae In, were actresses under Core Contents Media. Choi Soo Eun appeared in a TV special called Singer and Trainee with T-ara and Core Contents Media trainee Song Ah Reum. Kim Hye Ji has also drawn attention for her successful modeling career. Somin was originally going to be one of the two new members in the line-up of T-ara, however stayed with Gangkiz instead. The group was officially moved to Core Contents Media's sub-label GM Contents Media, ready for debut.
It was announced that they would be releasing a seven-part music video for their debut song "Honey Honey", described as a an "upgraded version of T-ara's "Roly-Poly" and "Lovey-Dovey" with a mature concept". · Close
