  Lee Ji Eun, known as IU in the K-pop scene, was born on May 16th, 1993. IU’s rise to fame started with her debut in 2008 with “Lost and Found”, for which her strong vocals were highly praised. In 2011, the song “Good Day” did not only conquer the charts and music shows, but was also crowned as no.1 for “most downloaded and streamed song” from January 1st till March 30th on the online music service, Soribada. Showcasing a new side, IU went into acting with the drama “Dream High”. At the same time, her OST track “Someday” placed 4th on the previously mentioned category on Soribada. Continuing her success, the singer was also able to perform as a guest star at Corinne Bailey Rae’s concert this year.
  
  Most recently, IU has received an all-kill with her latest album “Last Fantasy”. Wrapping up the year, on MBC’s “Weekly Idol”, IU placed 1st as “the idol most likely to be the biggest star in 2012” according to fellow K-pop artists. For this reason, the users of Gokpop has successfully secured her place as the “Best female solo” for the Gokpop Music Awards 2011! Congratulations to IU!

  Super Junior
  Super Junior released its Japanese single Mr. Simple on December 7th 2011. The song, which has been noted to contain the 'Super Junior funky' sound was quick to delight fans along with a nice change in lyrics calling fans misters and misses simple. The catchy hooks and because the boys are 'naughty naughty' was enough to make this song a hit, making the boys win various times on music shows.

  Super Junior
  After receiving much love for their title track 'Mr. Simple', Super Junior released their fifth studio album of the same name on August 3rd 2011. The album was a hit with fans with a great dance sound that dominated some of the album. Fans were delighted to find a Donghae composed track, 'Y' as a part of the album and it became a fan favorite along with 'La La La', 'Opera' and the rest of the album in general. It's no surprise that this was voted as the album of the year of 2011! Congratulations SuJu!

  The fiercest girlband of the Kpop scene, 2NE1, managed to win all of our hearts by its unique style and powerful performances again. Ever since its debut in 2009, 2NE1 has been receiving tons of awards, topping various charts and inspiring many Kpop listeners with its music.
  
  In 2011, YG Entertainment’s only girlband made an overwhelming comeback, starting its promotions with Park Bom’s 2nd solo single, Don’t Cry. On 28th July 2011, after a lot of teasing, 2NE1 finally revealed its 2nd mini album, including the hit tracks, “UGLY”, “I Am The Best”, “Hate You” and more. Besides releasing a chart-topping album again, 2NE1 held its 1st concert titled “NOLZA” in August, and entertained thousands of Blackjacks.
  
  For concluding the year of 2011 so successfully, 2NE1 receives from us the award in the category of “Best girlband”. Congratulations!

  Being the maknae or the youngest member of Super Junior, Cho Kyuhyun was born 3rd February 1988. Even though he’s the youngest, he actually loves to bully his hyungs especially Ryeowook, Yesung and Kangin that’s why a lot of nicknames have been tagged to him such as Evil Kyu, Drama Kyu and GameKyu as he is well known to be Star Craft addicted. With these nicknames, he has names his Twitter account as Gaemgyu.
  
  Kyuhyun has proven that even thought he is the youngest, his own abilities have taken him to the spotlight.

  With colorful concept photos and the description of an 'ubersexual' concept the boys made the hearts of ELFs beat faster and faster waiting for its comeback.   Boyfriend officially released its fanclub name, “Best Friends”, on August 10, 2011. They sure do have a lot of best friends supporting them from last year until now that Boyfriend won the GMA as the new artist of the year. Congratulations boys!
